Dennis,

Where are these located on the '89 Westfalia? I've cleaned up the 2 ground locations under the coil, also the 1 on the distributor, the braided ground strap on the #3/#4 head, the ground on the transmission. Any of these the bundled ground you refer to? Also, don't recall seeing a ground at the ECU, wasn't looking for one when I pulled it out, so I may have simply overlooked it. Is it under the ECU or somewhere else?

From the factory there is a dedicated chassis ground at the ECU connector. There is a bundled ground in the fuel injection harness. Sometimes there are failures there.

from Dennis suggestion and after the capacitor fix I would suggest to add a aground strap to the ECU - under the bench seat run a ground strap/wire to the body.
