Also, try immediately slowing down until the chattering stops.  When
mine does this it's always on the first time of the day accelerating
to highway speed, probably at fifty-some mph.  If I ease off the gas
and coast down a few mph it will stop, and won't be back for the rest
of the day.

I was slower than you have been to realize it was the head chattering
and not the cable; and so far I always manage to forget until the
next time it happens.

VDO apparently fixed this late in production.  Here's the tech
bulletin summary from Unca Joel by way of syncro.org:
