I am no chemist but I am an avid, almost everyday cyclist, logging an average of ~7-8k miles per year now for about 30 yrs, many of those miles using air tool oil on my derailleurs, my shifters, my brake pivots, etc etc.... I am also a carpenter and have used nail-guns for many many years, lubing them daily with about 5 drops of oil as per manufactures specs...My senco guns are about 20yrs old now and have never had any dirt related problems.... I used to sometimes use expensive stuff like triflow or bicycle-specific lubes, but I began with the tool oil, one day when it occurred to me that Triflow was REALLY expensive! and never switched back....
