Yup. Putty knife. And a triangle shaped file (ground down) as a scraper. This may be what Jim refers to, but IIRC, there's small (Phillips head?) screws somewhere in the middle possibly hidden under a foam seal.

Best of luck and new words can help. If you haven't already done your pop top canvas, you will invent new words during that job for sure.
