I am getting prepared to send out my transmission (5sp manual in an 84 tin top, with an inline Jetta motor mounted with diesel factory mounts) I've removed it once before, but I didn't have to move the van while it was out.....this time, I am going to need the shop space during the time the tranny is gone for rebuild...so how I do dat? Can I remove the inner CVs and simply wire-up the stub axles in place long enough to push the van out of my shop about 35 feet, in a straight line? Or do I need to remove the axles completely during this? This subject has been well discussed but without any real definitive answers to a couple of possible traction enhancements I am considering: Adapting a syncro locker style mechanism to work with my 5sp....and also the possibility of adding some friction-style clutch packs to my differential (a la Porsche 911) to add some limited slip function at a nominal expense...Does anyone have any input on either of these options? Experiences? Expense? I am only concerned with the locker portion that is in the rear end, I will work up an alternative method engage the locker...even if I have to get out and crawl under, it will beat chaining up the wheels to get unstuck...

Yes, I know the Peloquin style are simply great...but I don't have the cash for that....

German Trans in Bend? They are one week out for the work and just 2 1/2 hrs from my home...AA is over 6 wks out and about 6hrs driving, one way...similar fee...Are the guys in Bend good enough to spend a couple of grand with? the logistics there are more favorable than going to Duval and AA Trans...
