As Larry says, the new relays and headlights should switch power from a new, larger fused wire from the battery, and those existing fuses no longer feed the headlights, they just trip the relays. I have the Go Westy kit, which taps into the large red wire from the battery at the fuse panel. I'll email you the installation instructions for the '85.

Sounds like your relays have not changed anything and were not installed correctly.

Stuart

Group

I purchased a headlight relay kit a few years ago. Recently I have been challenged with the issue of heat on fuses 5 and 6 when using the high beams. Fuse 6 even melted once. Everything works fine as long as I don't leave the high beams on for long. Do you know what would cause that problem? Do I need to replace the relays? Change wiring? My kit was from Vanagon westfalia parts.
