Paul of Valley WagonWerks, San Rafael, Ca and Marco of the Bus Lab, Berkeley, Ca did my rear disk brakes, from Audi 5000 turbo I believe. Not kit, from scratch The parking brake works great.

Because of overbraking I recommend to NOT install rear discs without a matching front setup. I tried offering my 4-disc setup via the list once or twice, but being non-commercial, the costs were killing me, especially shipping costs from Germany.

Also, there is no disc conversion known yet to fit under the 14" Vanagon rims. I mean, 256mm original setup on the front is really close to the rim, so what would you expect on the rear?!

2002 I started with 288mm on the front (vented) and 245mm solid in the rear. Took this from a C4 Audi 100/A6. Then went to 312mm in the front (2006 or so?) and will start the new season with 345mm Audi S4 in the front. 312mm front survives several hard brake tests from 115mph to full stop quite well on the Vanagon (mine is at almost 2tons). All setups kept the 245mm in the rear. I could go larger, but it´s no use. Going larger in the front is no use either, but it looks nicer behind big wheels with few spokes :-)

The usual bragging: http://www.v6bus.de/WP_000892.jpg http://www.v6bus.de/WP_000893.jpg

BTW: I would say OK to the biggest rear setup, if the US Vanagons had ABS. But that´s a Euro feature only, so better not overbrake the rear!!!

Regards Raimund
