Value of labor is always something to consider. However, one thing you can't account for is the value of knowledge. By this, I mean that there is an inherent value in the in depth knowledge you gain by doing the conversion DIY vs having someone do it for you.

I swapped a V8 into a Mustang and did a few little custom items to the car. I could write a small essay about the swap, and that car was designed to have a V8!

If/when I need a new engine, I'll probably do a DIY swap. Of course I'll need to get Abel on board so he can lend a hand! Better yet, I'll wait till Mike and Geneva come back thru town!
