I’ve had rear brakes on my 2 primary Vanagons (Syncros) for years (probably nearly 10 years now). I did it mainly because it makes changing the pads a lot easier. Other than a rusty piston on one caliper I haven’t really had any issues. One time in an emergency situation I did have to slam on the brakes on my Westy (aka the heavier of the two), and even with larger wheels and tires, I was able to lock up all 4 wheels (20 feet of tire mark on the road).
