Neil,

I have had a Thule box on my van for over ten years now. I love being able to get my stuff out of the van and keep it clutter free. And if you are traveling with 4 people it is almost a must. The roof gutter system works great. I have never had a leak or any type of cracking. I did add extra silicon sealant to the rubber pads when I installed them though. Usually when we stop to camp I unload the box with our gear so popping the top is not much different than normal. I have popped it with a bunch of stuff in it and that can be difficult. I usually take mine off when not traveling. But if you look on line there are many Westy with those boxes on top.
