I bought an ’84 Westy in ’86 with 30k on and it looked like this in the engine compartment. At 60K the left head leaked, and that cost me $1400 with the dealer paying for one and a half heads as a partial warranty.
This van will need several rubber components replaced soon as well as the fuel lines. I’ll bet the factory fill of “two year” coolant is still in there with no corrosion inhibitor left, so the heads might just start leaking too! Museum pieces can’t be expected to jump into daily driving without some repairs.
I’m surprised by all the garage finds this year, I’ve been following prices for five years and never seen anything like number I’ve seen this year. Must be the rising values. When searching in the fall of 2014 for a Westy the average price for an ’86 or newer was $12-$15k, right now I see nothing listed under $20K that’s in decent shape, and that includes air cooleds.

Dear Barn Finders of North America & all the Ships @ C
Nice looking Vanagon - By photo inspection -a little sand blasted - if i did not know where it was stored and home based i would have asked why the decal wear and underside "rusty " looking chassis --
oh that 50K $ price tag is a few large in a pile -
I guess for the serious newbie or replacement oldie this is the new anti up price and when compared to restorations is a bargain - I paid 20K for our California diesel and that was 10 years ago already -
best of luck to the seller - i hope they realize very close to the asking price as it will serve to bring attention to real market price of a great van -
I would caution the new owner to replace fuel lines :) all the way to tank -
Maybe update tires too - that rubber is well past due date or best before date
And as with all armchair opinions - posted on the internet - mine is simply one of many - worth about as much or maybe less -
regards
