What happened was; back then, when I was changing heads, I was turning the
engine upside down, side ways, etc. in the process.
I had no problems with the lifters before.  But after I replaced the heads
exactly as they were before, and installed the engine the day after, I was
surprised that the engine would not start fro nothing.  Eventually I found
there is no compression.  So, I re-done the valve adjustments and it would
not start again.  Until I have adjusted to zero all of them.  Only then
would have compression.  And it continued to be that way until now.

To me it's not making any sense, of course.  Contacting the List, I was
hoping there was something I don't know yet maybe common knowledge to some.

I must admit, I did not measure the oil pressure to say 'it's too high'.
I'm just wondering why the lifters don't operate as they always did before.

If no one knows, that's fine.

Good lifters filled with oil will not compress quickly. After adjustment you
have to wait sometime and them they will final adjust after the engine
starts. The air cooled engines not only burn valves but they can have the
valve seats come loose.

Hi to all,

This is an air-cooled engine, 2 liter, 1982 model.

I seem to have a problem with my lifters not getting compressed.

I can’t tell why.  I can think of the oil pressure to be too high.  Took the
‘oil pressure relief valve’ out and can’t find anything wrong.

Had to use the lifters without any turn on it.

Now the engine is out because I think I have burnt valves.

Any of you had such a problem before?  What could be amiss?
