Here's the post from Scott. Couldn't find it 'til now. Hope it helps

John this might be encouraging .. remove the aft end of the shift linkage from the 'lever with a ball on it' on the side of the trans. ( two nuts and bolts to undo that part )

check, with a deep 13mm socket, that the 13mm hex nut holding the lever onto splines there, is good and tight. I've found loose ones a buncha times. If that's loose there, not only will it result in very vague gear selection, left loose long enough ..it will damage the splines in the lever.

while there, lube it really good. I use 'black slimy' grease...ie. moly suffide I think it is, on that ball. I kinda prefer the rubber boot there to be semi-shot so I can spray nice lube in there. ....regularly, not every 7 years when things aren't working right. lol. Scott

Ocassionally gear grinding. Not often. But definitely hard to find the spot fora particular at odd times. Has grown worse over time, until it became impossible yesterday. I suspect linkage adjustment AT te transmission - not IN the transmission. Have replaced a piece there before. In that case it locked in reverse and refused to disengage. Don't think this is IN the transmission, but need encouragement!

Does it involve GearGrinding or just Difficulty Finding gears ~ Did this happen suddenly or slowly over time ~

Does the Shifter still have the Spring Loaded Up & Down Positions ~

all. Reverse is difficult - often can't find it. Happens in reverse, Ist, 2nd and 4th gears.

Suggestions?

John.
