I have a Ford Bosch pump. It's a bit longer because it has a threaded front fitting, but it's the same pump and fits fine by shortening the hose from the tank. It's about $90 from Rock Auto, but you can have my brand new in the box pump for $50. I've been carrying it as a spare but don't need it anymore. Pmail me.

I went with the Bosch OEM pump from Rock Auto, by far the best price at $125. Avoid the cheap knock offs that are also listed there.

I recall a thread on the samba vanagon forum re: a pump used Ina Ford application fitting and working with the vanagon. Maybe a Bosch pump for that application is less money? The buzzing noise may Be due to pump cavitation. That said, grinding sounds can't be good.
