And that is why good diagnostics cannot be replaced by parts swapping. There is also the possibility that the starter has a problem or there is a bad battery cable, connection, etc.

I'm not sure if you saw my last update.

Got a jump, started no prob. Went to O'Reily's and they tested the battery. They said it tested as bad. So I went to Les Schwab and had them replace the battery (for fear of the radio locking up, etc).

New battery. Done. Go home. Relax. 2 hours later (nighttime), I try to start up, won't start.

Check the battery voltage at rest and then while trying to start the engine. If it drops rapidly the battery is discharged or defective. Defective batteries will also make jump starting difficult. All methods of jump starting rely on the battery being able to accept some current (why you wait a few minutes) and then being able to deliver while the jumping source adds enough to get the job done. > > Once you get the engine started you want to check the charging system operation. With a very low battery you still want to see at least 13.5 volts. The set point for most VW products is 13.8 volts. This is what you want to see with the battery charged and most accessories off. Anything from 13.6 to 14.2 is good. > > Batteries can show good voltage at rest but loose charge over time or not be able to deliver current. Batteries can just die on you, I have had that happen. But more likely battery not getting charged. Try using a jumper battery or getting someone to help with a jump start. If you have AAA they can diagnose the battery on the spot (I've had that done by them) and sell you and install a new battery right there. Can probably check to see if the alternator is charging also. So, my next call would be AAA for battery problems, not for towing yet. > >> On Sat, Mar 5, 2016 at 2:11 PM, Jeremy Stovin jjstov@yahoo.com [wetwesties] <wetwesties-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: >> >> Sorry, guys.
