This could be simple failure of the idle control system or there is an engine performance problem that is apparent when the engine is cold. Is it also stalling or hesitating when you try to accelerate? Since part of your comment is that you can’t drive it for 5 or 10 minutes I would begin there. It could be something is wrong and the idle control system can't compensate. There are many things that can cause poor cold engine performance including engine condition itself, carbon deposits on the back of the intake valves, vacuum leaks, temp 2 sensor, ignition issues, etc. Best bet is to have someone knowledgeable diagnose and make proper repair(s). Up until this past summer, the van would start up and idle beautifully, and I could drive it right away. Now, roughly since this past fall, all of a sudden I have to sit and give it gas for 5 or 10 minutes before I can go anywhere. After it's "warmed up" it drives perfectly and idles perfectly when stopped. I've had regular routine maintenance done by mechanics, but this just seems to have started out of nowhere. What needs to be done? Patti 90 Westy Automatic 117,000 miles Los Angeles
