Subject: Piff Project for Mary Karraker - Complete
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
Volks,
Back in September we kicked off a Pif (Pay it Forward) Project to help get Mary Karraker’s bus roadworthy.
I’m delighted to announce that thanks to your generous donations and a lot of hard work by Miguel, the project is complete and Mary’s Bus is now road worthy and ready for new adventures.
We have an amazing Bus community.
Here’s a short note from Miguel.

Mary's van turned out beautiful. I put a low mileage 2.1 (90K miles,) in it. Also, rebuilt her axles and used Rockford boots (T3 Technique carries them.....rubber at least two times thicker than Lobro.) New fuel lines, changed her tranny oil and many other odds and ends. Lots of attention to detail......she got the hook up, as they say.

Original but slightly abbreviated project announcement.
Volks,
From time to time over the years many of us have coordinated what has come to be known as a “Piff” project.
The Pay It Forward Fund, or “PIFF” has a goal of assisting members of our VW Bus community who find themselves in need of a little help in order to get their bus a little further down the road.
This can involve coordinating volunteer efforts, donating parts or raising money to pay for repairs.
I would like to announce a PiFF project that is being coordinated by our good friend Miguel Pacheco in Durango.
Miguel along with his partner Mick, own the VW shop “Busaru” in Durango, CO.
Miguel has a customer that is in need of a little help.
Mary Karraker, 78, was a National Park Service Ranger (NPS) for 27 years. She worked in the Everglades NP, C&O Canal, National Mall, Rocky Mountain NP, Kenai Fjords NP, Gates of the Arctic NP, Yukon-Charley Rivers NP, Capulin Volcano NM, Golden Gate, Mojave NP. She spent 8 yrs. in Alaska, During her career, she was an Emergency Medical Technician for the NPS and local volunteer ambulance crews. She was in Law Enforcement (NPS) for 14 years and was a volunteer Deputy Sheriff in Larimer County CO. She retired in 2003 and moved to Durango CO. She has been a volunteer for the Humane Society, Manna Soup Kitchen, Durango Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, the Senior Center and AARP.
Mary has owned 6 Volkswagens in the past. The first, a 1961 Bug, was driven to Alaska before the Al-Can Highway was paved.
Unfortunately Mary is not in a position to be able to afford the repairs necessary to get her current bus road worthy.
Miguel is hoping to be able to raise enough money to complete the necessary repairs and enable Mary to have a few more adventures.
Right now the bus is in pretty bad shape …
