"The problem is I can't drive the car to an AC shop for evacuation...I temporarily cancelled the insurance and my insurance agent reported this to the Calif. DMV, who then arbitrarily suspended the registration. " jbclem, You may feel that you "temporarily" cancelled your insurance, but you either cancelled it or didn't. The state of California has mandatory auto insurance requirements so if you didn't register your vehicle as 'non-use' then you were breaking the law...we don't want vehicles on the road that aren't covered by insurance...there is nothing arbitrary about it.
