Bill, 12V computer electronics, unlike 12V automotive stuff, typically expect 12.0V +/- 0.5V for normal supply. 14.0 volts is right at the limit for many fans back when I knew something about them. I suggest putting a couple or three 1N4000-series diodes (the last digit 1-7 indicates reverse voltage rating from 50V to 1000V) in series with the positive lead of your wall wart to keep the fan happy. Each one will drop around .6 volts, so three would bring you comfortably within the nominal range.
