Part of a good trans overhaul includes a good inspection and rebuild of the clutch cross shaft and bushings. It is the heart of having smooth clutch operation. Also, there is the oil slinger that is pressed in behind the oil seal. These often get popped loose or the inner groves trashed for a pilot bearing failure. Without this piece you end up with a trans that always leaks some at that shift seal. There is little shipping savings not having the bell housing attached and lots of room for debris to get it in.

Hi all.

I know this might void any warrantee offered and leave the input shaft open to damage but...

Would a tranny rebuilder consider taking a customers core without the clutch housing then return a rebuilt without the clutch housing?

It's not hard to remove reinstall the housing. And, not hard to rebuild the clutch housing.
