make sure that all your electrical connections for the ignition system are up to snuff. This includes your grounds. Also make sure that there is nothing funky going on with your distributor.

Slow cranking could be all sort of things. I had a squirrel chew the wires on my distributor once so it could deposit a walnut behind it.... So lots of wanting to crank, but nothing until I was able to trace all wires down including the ones to the distributor.

BTW is your 85 auto or manual?
