fwiw... A. Ken at German Transaxle told me a Redline Rep told him the reformulated thing. What's actually true appears elusive.

B. German Transaxle swears by UltraGuard full Synthetic gear oil. this one... https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/drive-line/bg-ultra-guard-full-synthetic-gear-lubricant/

I like it just fine in a Vanagon transaxle. Expensive ....$ 12 to 15 per qt. perhaps.

I also like to add to 'lesser' gear oils ..Prolong Transmission Oil Additive .
