Just spent $1,200 inspecting my 86.5 Westy. This van has 128,000 + miles on it but the engine (from VW calif and I think manufactured in Mexico only has about 16,000. VW replaced the engine twice at their expense. Mostly head gasket issues. I put the last one in as VW was past the timeframe designated by a lawsuit. That’s four engines total!

I’ve owned this van since it had 17,000 on it and I’m the second owner. I’ve had my share of headaches and expense, but after all this, I still want to “keep it in the family.”

As I drove out of my mechanics lot, the oil light came on accompanied by a consistent buzz. I’ve had this problem before but can’t remember what they did to fix it. The current mechanic changed the sender and wire but that didn’t cure it.

Any suggestions?

Alan Hockstein

ps: I got several great responses and suggestions where I could find an Idle Control Valve. So far I still have had no luck despite the fact that some suggestions led to other source leads, still with no luck. Nobody seems to have this part available!
