Much thanks Mark for the quick reply. Ok. I see. hmm... maybe I'll get away with leaving the large 20 seals in place for now. The oil on transmission housing looks like it might be from a failing crank seal. I should have steam cleaned that area first then watched for leaks. I think I "see" what you mean re a worn CV joint. I know the axle can normally be moved in/out (vehicle L/R) but there is mention of side to side play check in Bentley. Each inboard CV had nothing but gear oil inside. Ironically, the inboard CV at side with intact flange plug appears to be discoloured, mainly visible at balls. Pitting and galling appears to be minimal on all CV's but at the very least, I guess I should replace the inboard CV's. These may be the original or dealership parts. image of brand stamp: Neil.
