Hi Robert,
I lived in slc during the late 90's and early 00's and traveled tons that area in my 79. I never stayed in the parks themselves - way too expensive and too many portable generators in  he big rv's for my liking...
What I did was free camp in the blm lands adjacent. 
I practiced a Leave No Trace policy and planned accordingly (i.e.: lots of extra water and an extra spare).
I wouldn't trade those trying or for anything.
I say wing it!
