Subject: Transmission (transaxle) Drive Flange Seals
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

Hi all.

For an '88 Westy. Both blue "cap" seals at ID of each transmission drive flange were leaking badly. One outright failed, the other was either poorly installed or was pushed part way out due a possible clog at transmission vent hole. Images of failed seals

http://tinyurl.com/ztkcwzc I'm not sure what caused one seal to outright fail but I have to wonder if the driveshaft was rubbing against it.

I see info in archives, and this detail may well be buried in there somewhere but looking at this image (ETKA type)

http://tinyurl.com/zhwwjrs

if seal 20 in image is failing, will it allow gear oil to get in behind the blue "cap" seal at ID of drive flange?

What does part 19 in image seal?

Thanks,

Neil.
