I don't even try to use those grounding crowns, as a push-on spade terminal is just a weak way to make a connection.

Weak and cheap. You won't find them on high quality cars from the same era. Not on a Mercedes or Volvo, for example.

they can only deteriorate with time, heat, corrosion and current flow. I've found tons of loose and 'too old' ones on VW's.

A good ground connection for me is like this ( which I discovered and learned about on a 1970 Renailt 16 car's tail light grounds ) ..

'eye' type crimped terminal on the wire end. Sheet metal screw into the body. and the final touch ...a 'star' multi-point washer betwixt eye terminal and body metal. ( like with 10 jagged points on it ) Such a connection will provide a great ground for a good long time. Might want some dielectric grease there too.
