This is similar to a problem I recently had. Is your fuel pump squealing? If so, maybe is a clogged fuel filter causing engine to starve for gas when trying to accelerate or at high speed. In my case, it was because the fuel tank was dropped to install stainless steel cooling lines during a Subie engine conversion; the tank wasn't replaced, but was removed and reinstalled. I suspect this "jostling" caused some bits of crud to get knocked loose and into fuel line to fuel pump and fuel filter.
It took me 3 replacements of fuel filter to finally get rid of all the crud. But now fuel pump is quiet and not squealing and performance is normal again. (And I'm carrying fuel filter #4 just in case problem comes again.)

Yes, I replaced the fuel tank two weeks ago. :)
