Subject: Transmission Case, Clutch Shaft Bolt Hole Repairs
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

Hi all.

I'd posted about corrosion damage at my transmission case.

Some images and notes here:

I chose JB Weld as the small version of white Marine Tex requires you mix the whole batch; the margin of error between epoxy and (catalyst?) added is small, and ambient temps need to be higher than what I was seeing. That small amount of epoxy wasn't cheap. The larger version, much more. In hindsight, I think I should've purchased this Marine Tex

However. A marine repair person (engineer) said that between JB and Marine Tex, he'd use JB weld for a mechanical repair. Just one mans opinion. We'll see if the JB holds up at all. It's held up to a lot of filing so far. Torquing down the bracket nuts may well crack it.

In terms of case corrosion, the worst offenders seem to be at the clutch shaft retaining bolt hole and area where slave cylinder bracket ring mounts. i.e. had I tried to remove that bracket, that bracket ring likely would've broken off case material. Leaving that clutch bolt hole un-repaired would likely have caused issues later on. e.g. premature wear at the clutch shaft bushings.
