Why is the mechanic smoke testing the crankcase? Anyway, there is a seal on the body of the distributor. It is likely shot but unless you have oil working up and leaking there don’t worry about it. As the pulley the 3 groove pulleys do not use a washer. There is an o-ring under the pulley that seals the pulley bore and keyway. Again, if you do not have an oil leak don’t worry about. These small leaks are nothing compared to the vent system dealing with the normal blow-by past the piston rings due to the gap.

A 85 Westy 1.9 with auto, a/c & power steering. Is it possible to have vacuum leaks at the base of ignition distributor and the crankshaft pulley bolt key way? My mechanic did a smoke test for leaks and found them at these areas. He also said the heavy washer that goes between bolt and pulley is missing. I thought on the 1.9 with a/c & ps the pulley bolt didn't have this washer. Anyone have experience with this kind of leak and the lack of washer? Thanks. Spencer
