Alistair: oddly enough, the shoes that are in there look very much the same as
the GoWesty shoes I have in hand. Like the adjuster lever, e-brake
lever, look identical.
I can't recall if these were Raybestos Premium shoes or came from my
local VW supplier.
I pulled the e-brake cables. They were not seized but there is a mark
at each in section of
cable residing behind the drum. Image:

Of note, the driver side e-brake lever at shoe was really loose. The
passenger side lever was
tight and normal, for lack of better description.

I wonder if that adversely affected e-brake cable adjustment?
