When raiding parties were in the area; woman and children fled to the plateau and hid until the raiders left. Another thread of this story has West Coast Bands hunting Elk, encountering Comox people and killing them. Both these stories lend the name "forbidden" to the area and a place to be avoided. > > Accessible from Courtenay by two roads. One gravel, up to the now abandoned Wood Mt Ski area. The Paradise Meadows loop trail, ~ 8 Km circles splendid meadows and alpine lakes which, when in bloom, are worth the walk to see. Take the chairlift to the top of Mt Washington on a clear day, the view is worth the cost of admission… A wonderful place to drive your Westfalia. The parking lot at the abandoned Wood Mt Ski area is free of charge overnight parking … > > Pz > ------------------- > > On 2016-05-04, at 11:33 PM, Scott wrote: > > Question .. > I have a fairly large laminated wall map of Vancouver Island. > > on it is a place called Forbidden Plateau . > it's half up the east side, inland some. > > anybody ever been there or know anything about it.? > ( duh..I'll just google ! ) > > thanks for any comments. >
