Another issue with the oversized pumps is the penetration of the pin far enough into the cam so it doesn't wear off the tip...the gear is a press on to its shaft(pin), and can be pressed back further to be a better long term fit in the cam slot...it's  a measure twice and press back only thousands of an inch at a time thing, but the longer geared pump makes a world of difference...longer studs are also required, and the flat steel plate (beetle) still had clearance to everything...

If not a tight fit they can leak at both the inlet and outlet both of which will reduce oil pressure. Send the defective one back.
