Thanks Alistair. I'll check out Milwaukee tool. I'm clearl at the point that an impact wrench would be of great use.

Ok. So I pu on my " very very best of Alabama" CD, started thinking like a farmer (and I do mean that in the best possible way. I clearly lack that kind of logic at times) and used that EMPI tool, with a hose clamp like this, (image):

held one sledge hammer stationary on the tool then used another sledge to hit that hammer head, They came off! Had to heat one nut with MAPP gas but it worked.
