trimmed........ I am hearing whining noise in all gears...no popping out
or shifting problems with any gears, but this transmission has been getting
noisier for some time... It's now noticeable louder when I roll down a
window....past time to have it done. I want to get the van back...
Any experienced 5sp 2wd tranny service feedback for me? Don Hanson
Hello all Update on a 5sp manual rebuild..
First, thanks to all who responded to my first query regarding the shops
"near" me I
I chose to deal with AA Transaxle near Seattle. It's ready today, exactly
one week. Surprised me...
I asked the boys at AA if they'd make a note of the particulars of this
5sp as they delved into the job, I'll pass those on later after I get the
full story from the workers or Matt..Thankfully I didn't have any major
damage or core issues..
The "Good News" regarding the actual cost of the rebuild was a big
relief. I'll probably spend about $2000 on the whole project, the trans
rebuild being about $1800. I'm replacing the throw out bearing and the
pilot bearing and I'll also do the gas lines again and generally 'clean up'
under there while the tranny is being re-installed.
I put aside about $500 'extra' for this transmission job, just in
case, so now I have some left over to get a fancy head for my inline motor.
The 8 valve head I currently have is ready for valve guide work, at least.
Heads are inexpensive for the inlines...
Next project on the van? Probably upper control arm bushings...my right
side one is gone...
