yes, I was impressed long ago when someone said 'they can only get
tighter' ...
makes sense,
but ..I have seen them not squease a hose tight enough to seal the hose
properly to the fitting..
tho granted ..the hose nipple under the hose was corroded..
aluminum is particularily suseptible to this ..for example..the
semi-large hose nipples cast into the ends of 1.9 heads.
speaking off..that's a good way to get an idea of what the cooling
system is like inside the engine..
ya see thick white powder under a hose fitting ( on aluminium ) ..the
rest of the internals could be heading that way too.
at least with a screw clamp one can tighten down a little more if needed.
I doubt a springy metal spring clamp changes diameter much in respsone
to changing temps ..
perhaps .00001 inches..
and of course...we've seen metal hose nipples just 'rusted away' like
full of holes under a hose..
and plastic ones too .......like on a 2.1 Coolant Distribution
Tower...just crumple with heat, age and plastic deterioration. ..usually
a heater hose going forward.
so much fun keeping these old beauties alive !
