I just look at the threads on the rod very carefully ..and 'see' ..if I turn it 'this way' that will lengthen the rod. then, I try to remember, like on my screwdriver levering tool ..'handle up tightens up' .. or whichever it is, handle up or down. if I had to guess right now I'd say 'handle up tightens up'.'
