On my '81, albeit with a non stock engine, if I let it sit unused for
months, the clutch may
shudder a little but that goes away as I drive it.
As for clutch life, unless I'm misreading your post, 235K should be
good value for one
clutch? ;)
I just did the clutch on my '88 WBX. Used a Sachs clutch kit. Unless
I'm recalling
incorrectly, "German" was on the clutch and it may well have been made
in Germany.
Got it from VM Autohaus Burnaby BC. Kit came with new felt seal, pilot bearing,
and input shaft lube. The flywheel showed minor amounts of wear in part due
to an oil fouled clutch disc. I cleaned it with brake parts cleaner,
took some fine
emery cloth to the disc face surface, cleaned it again. Clutch works
great, no shudder,
no slip.
