Another safety point is to only use impact or power sockets on impact or power drivers. Chrome or other hardened sockets can shatter or even have the chrome plating fly off. Not only are the eyes at risk but these small flying parts can penetrate the skin and be difficult to remove like splinters. I once had the top of a 3/8" dowel pin break off from being driven in with a hammer. Found it two day later when my hand started swelling. X-ray found the piece in the palm of my hand. Surgery to remove it. I didn't feel it go in but I won't forget it coming out.

You can.t have too many warnings about flying debris! I had to undergo eye surgery to remove a piece of steel from my cornea acquired in a industrial setting with safety glasses, gogeles, and a face shield on. The best way is no impact at all. Take the cotter pins out and have a socket and breaker bar. Put it on the passnger side twards the front with the handle on the ground. Start the engine and slip the clutch in first gear. It will come off. Alternatively cut the nut off it is false economy to reuse it as the threads are most likely distorted.Mike
