This Vanagon owner had the engine repaired by a pro shop who was "up for"
the challenge; they'd never worked on a WBX before. Based on what little I know
of major engine work on a WBX, it appears these guys did their best.
e.g. I see the
"Right Stuff" or similar sealant added to the coolant jacket seals.
They haven't supplied a list of what was done but a head or heads were off
and an " O ring " (owners terms) was replaced. This engine was seeing
oil in the coolant.
Point is, I'd suspected what with all good intentions, the shop may
have re-connected
a previously disconnected throttle body switch.
But I didn't know about the aux. air regulator plug being the same.
Excellent tip. The shop could easily have swapped those connectors.
The surge on decel or just off idle issue started after the engine
work was done as did
an idle issue; RPM's will randomly rise, hold, then drop.
It could very well be that the aux. air regulator
is connected to the throttle body switch plug.
Much thanks. At very least this might save her a long trip back to the shop
though they should make good on this. Her choice.
