Roger, as you probably know, I lived in Alaska for many years, and
consequently have crossed the USA/Canadian border many times. Requirements
for border crossings have changed over the years, but yours is the most
succinct summary I have seen in many a year. I hope to make the crossing
one more time so I do thank you for this reminder!

10Dear Border
i have much to say about crossing both ways
1. have your passports ready and out -
2. if traveling with pets of any nature have letters from vet saying pets
are a1
3. cage up pets prior to border crossing and tell customer service
representatives of her majesty or the flag that pets are onboard -
4. Pkged animal food purchased in canada is not allowed to travel to usa
5. citrus purchased in canada is not allowed to travel to usa no matter
where it originated
6. Firearms are allowed in canada if declared and properly pkged the rules
are on the CBS site (canada Border Services not tv network)
7. have paperwork with you such as letter from employer - mortgage docs or
rental docs -lease docs
8. items you are bringing into the country need a list - and value - same
on the way out
9. stop about a mile from border and have a piss and void and all that
stuff - do not consume anymore fluids til across (there are no bathrooms
open to the public at border
10.I will tell a story about germany here - this i listened to on late
night radio - it would seem the german police sit on the german side of the
border shared with netherlands - when a car with german plates enters the
roadway - clearly coming from netherlands the german poilce pull over and
search - they almost always find products which are legal in holland and
against the law in germany - --
11. be respectful of the person who is in the booth or at the counter where
you cross the border - they do not like jokes or stupid shit
12. Gifts for your canadian or american friends are to remain unwrapped
until the Customer service representaives of her majesty or the flag give
you the go ahead
13. if you have large sum of cash money in your van - declare it either way
- best to know exact amount -
14. they may or may not have dogs on the job and the Ross Reblegati may or
may not work -
15. the border is not a court of law - unless asked they really do not care
what your "reasons" are that you are not laying according to rules
16. The boarder between any two countries is actually abit of a grey area
where there is no citizen ship until allowed to pass
usa in canada is alien - canada in usa is alien - neither have rights in
the country of the other and no one has rights at the border - your rights
at the border are to do as requested by the customer service representative
- More to the point - both USA and Canada are operating in various theatres
of war around the world and some passage of time long forgotten by you may
be the most dominate part of canadian or usa border agents question period
-
every time board a plane in the last ten years i am swabbed for gun powder
which is funny cause i do not own or operate fire arms on a regular basis -
upon further investigation i see they issue airline tickets for me as
Rogerian - my name is actually Roger Ian - so you figure out where the
mistake is an fix it - i have no time and simply show my corporate disdain
for the actions of willfully ignorant TSA
17. I have been questioned at the border in both directions - to severe
intensity - had my wallet emptied right down to the dust as they searched
for some sort of unlawful products based on my home address - had the
sliding door rendered inoperable because the "agent " broke the key off in
the lock - hey bud the door was not locked - but i think i will keep my
council as i know i am a guest in the country -
18. no matter how long you plan to be out take your passport - even if down
to the counter for directions or a map or snow cone - always have your
passport -
papers please is not just a scene from the sound of music -
have fun -
eh
regards
