So, I'm self-employed, own my home outright, and don't go to school. How do I prove that I just want to return home?

dear border letter
yes a letter from employer waiting for your return -
lease, mortgage or rental documents - or school admission letters
demonstrate your intention to return to the country of your origin -
one more detail -
the results of 9 11 and other similar events was not a change in law or
policy - the actual rules of border crossing have not "changed" since -
well since around wwii - what has changed is the enforcement procedures -
stuff that had fallen into the general who cares bucket is now at top of
list -
if anything it has become easier to cross border with advancement of
technology as many questions are now answered with technology but the
fundamentals stay the same -
who are you - where are you going - anything that we normally do not allow
our citizens to have on your person - whats the purpose of your trip - what
routes are you planning to travel - any piles of cash with you - do you
have sufficient resources at hand to mitigate unforeseen circumstances -
when will you be planning to leave - and anything you would like to declare
-
one afternoon i was at a border crossing to welcome my inlaws into canada -
they had a trailer load of tuff for us so they had some paperwork to deal
with - while we waited for them to arrive we sat on the sidelines cause you
are not allowed to even have conversation in that area - no touching etc --
two young girls came in and behind them two guys one had loads of tats on
his bare arms - thy all stood at the cafe style forms table in the centre
of the room and several time a CBS agent would stop and ask them a
question - if i recall rightly a form was being filled out by one - she may
have just been playing with it - anyway guy with tats was requested to
attend the counter - the girls were asked to sit in chairs near us -
then Tats was asked to go to a little room to one side for "payment " of
some sort of fee as soon as he entered that room a flank of CSB literally
materialized out of the floor -- lining the path back to the counter - the
door opened and he stepped out - his hands were now zipped tied behind him
and he was marched to the other side of the hall into another walled off
area - the girls stood up and opened mouths to protest then sat back down
mouth s still agape - the flank vanished in the same silent way it
materialized --
I am unsure how i learned this but it would seem they picked him up
somewhere along the highway - he was a fugitive and etc etc etc - the
officers then told the girls they were free to continue their journey -
welcome back to canada etc -- it would be my guess they were soon hailed by
a friendly customer service rep of her majesty known locally as RCMP --
Immediately everyone went back to normal duties -- my point is - you have
no idea what sort of day your agent is having when you arrive at the gates
for entry - yesterday they may have shot three people - 1/2 hour ago they
may have caught the most wanted ever - or the least wanted -
a border agent does not operate under the same laws and procedures as
regular police - they have a wide latitude of discretion and they do not
have to tell you any reason they are questioning you or why they are
detaining you - the fact you want to enter the country is sufficient reason
to detain if they decide that is the reason -
