I have the very same question; I have been intending to ask it of the list for some time. Those same wires appear on my '91 GL AT and my '87 Wolfsburg AT. Both these vans have subie conversions, but I am certain that these wires are original. There is no evidence of a 'hard start" relay. This is the type of question best posed to Mark Drillock, but he may be out of touch in Europe right now.
