The factory at some point came up with an upgraded gasket and bolt design to fix this. The cork gaskets don't work especially after the pan is over tightened and distorted just once. Most of us now just use a filler gasket such as the "right stuff" for this job. There are also silicone type sealants designed for rear axle/differential lubricants.

If this is a failure over time look for possibilities that something is overheating. Heat will also destroy gaskets and sealants.

My mechanic is about to replace the Differential Pan Gasket for the 3rd time in less than a year (12,000 miles since the first) Any suggestions on which gasket to buy, or which sealing goop to use? 1990 Westy, 2.2 Liter, WBX, Automatic

Thanks

stan
