Thanks for posting that Alistair. One thing I've been meaning to to is take the flippin' edge "off" the lower outer corner of that shelf. I can't count how many times I've bumped my head on it while working in the engine area. I'd almost be tempted to add a return on that plate to cover that edge. Use a piece of angle aluminum? It would provide an edge to catch on when removing large items though. Grind edge to a 45ยบ.

re: weight reduction on new piece. Can you carve out "Westfalia" or VW or something of that ilk? Bell Industries could have a nice market niche. Add support between midpoint of plate and ceiling metal if need be? Of course if that's needed, somethings really wrong or failing with the cabinetry?
