I have the same brakes on my 85. When I had brake work done on the front they did not replace the dampening shims. I had loud squealing brakes. Ken Wilford, from Vanagain.com sold me a replacement set and I installed them. the brakes are now quiet again.

this is why I have a garage that works on vanagon’s only 10 minutes from my house and I refuse to go there.
