@ the OP. For me,as an amateur wrench, I had trouble "seeing" that for the full advance timing method, the ~ 35ยบ BTDC mark on crank pulley needed to be made to the right (toward passenger side) of the TDC mark. Like, as crank pulley rotates clockwise, that mark passes Before Top Dead Center (case half split) sooner.

If one measures out a piece of tape (2" IIRC), puts that on crank pulley then makes a mark at RH end, that indicates the full advance timing mark.

Length of tape required is noted somewhere on the samba under a tencentlife post.
