’85 doesn’t have the dynamic OP warning system, just a light that goes on when pressure hits zero. That’s why a gauge is imperative in my opinion.

some of the list vendors sell a kit with the proper sender, wires for both the dynamic oil pressure warning system and an electric gauge, and the proper gauge. I think I got mine from Van Cafe.
I have learned that the dynamic warning system is indeed a great, functional feature, despite some maligning it. I have not had it happen, but the buzzer will definitely get one's attention, as demonstrated to me by my mechanic back in Oklahoma as a lesson to encourage me to think better of it.
Still, I like to know what the oil pressure is, and with the gauge, I do, at all rpms, speeds, and temperatures.

By manual gauge do you mean with a 15' long tube? It can work, but it's prone to breakage. Much riskier than the electronic gauge, but better than nothing. Every Vanagon should have an oil pressure gauge IMHO, it's the only way to know the condition of the engine.

Thanks, Stuart!
I'll be putting in the manual gauge.... I can probably cobble together a tee for the two to work together....
