MANDATORY if you travel in A Vanagon ..
though long time since I've used mine.
I tend to carry enough parts and tools to open a repair shop though.
Dealt with 3 issues on the road on a recent 1500 mile trip.
One involved 'air' and two 'fluids.'
One was due to a recent non-stock modification to the fuel
injection...and didn't test enough first. So no complaints really
there..fixed that in a large parking lot with a pipe section made from a
Thai Coconut Milk can.
the 2nd one was a fluke ...plastic nipple to clutch master cylinder just
'broke' ....clutch still worked though. No idea why that happened.
Haven't ever seen that before.
( if I have a new part in stock for future use, I just carry it my van
..and I had both clutch hyd cylinders on board. )
Third issue was cooked old brake fluid in front calipers ...easy to deal
with, especially after being stuck in Lee Vining, California a due to
forest fire debris blocking Hwy 395 for a couple of days - had to drive
2 1/2 hours around in the Nevada desert.
after all, it's always a 'blockage or leakage of fluids or electrons'
...and those sure were.
but yeah, get good towing insurance for sure.
