I've run a vanagon oil pressure gauge on the dash with copper or plastic line from engine to dash .. not the best way for sure tho. Even had the line break at the engine end out on the freeway miles from home.

Electrical gauge way mo' betta. I just use the VDO one and sender from egauges.com . Works fine, use a T fitting to keep OP oil warning light too.

bit of a bother to access the OP port under the left head for that... not hard to get the right parts at a FLAPS,

and now on all waterboxer engines and installations I do I just have hard line going up to near the front of the left head.. so it's easy to deal with OP switch there or gauge sender from then on.

anything like that has to be well mounted, protected from rubbing or vibrating or failing in any way. I usually don't put the left push rod cover back on for a while ..to be able to check the metal line now and then.

here's a trick that's useful sometimes.. where you might need a flexible oil pressure line, a common grease gun rubber tube from a FLAPS works great.

Though, you could not use one of those directly off the OP port under the left head due to difficult access with the push rod tubes there. You sure never want something stuck and irremovable from the OP port under there.

Much riskier than the electronic gauge, but better than nothing. Every Vanagon should have an oil pressure gauge IMHO, it's the only way to know the condition of the engine. > > Stuart > > -----Original Message----- > From: David Bohannan [mailto:fjazzbass@gmail.com] > Sent: Saturday, July 02, 2016 12:11 PM > To: Stuart MacMillan > Cc: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Which switch for Oil Pressure?! 85 GL > > Thanks, Stuart! > > I'll be putting in the manual gauge....
